Room size and guest count decide how much power you need, not the other way round. Note those two numbers down before you contact a vendor.
Estimate power from the guest count
As a rough guide, an indoor event needs around 10 watts per guest, while an outdoor one can need twice that because the sound never reflects back.
- Up to 100 guests indoors — 1000 to 2000 watts.
- 100 to 300 guests — 3000 to 4000 watts.
- Over 300 guests, or outdoors — 5000 watts and up.
Do not forget the monitors
Monitor speakers face the stage so the host and performers can hear themselves. Without them they tend to shout, and the sound distorts instead.
